LARRY GANSCHOW

BIBLICAL COUNSELOR- IABC CERTIFIED, CRADC, SQP, CCS, SPECIALIZING IN SUBSTANCE ABUSE CASES.

Larry Ganschow was born the youngest of three high achieving siblings and rather than follow in their footsteps, blazed his own trail. He developed an, “appetite for rule breaking” at an early age that led to a battle with drugs and alcohol and addiction for living for his flesh that was difficult to break. When he found himself with a parole officer that stated, “The odds are stacked against you and the statistics show it; you will relapse,” he took on a new challenge to defeat what was labeled a disease. Through the past twenty eight years of sobriety, Larry has unlearned all that the secular world has taught about addiction and rooted himself in a Scriptural understanding of the real problem. Addiction is not a disease, but idolatry; and addiction is not a mysterious problem, but a sinful act. He did not take a path through recovery, but a path of repentance. These realizations came after years of climbing the ladder in secular counseling training. As a Board Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, he approached Biblical counseling as an outrage and learned more only in an attempt to discredit and destroy it. Instead of exposing it as a fraud, he was convicted by it. Larry was asked, “Imagine everything you have been taught is a lie” at a NANC (now ACBC) conference and took on the challenge. With nearly 28 years of experience in addictions and substance abuse counseling, Larry brings the textbook knowledge, field experience, and personal trials into his counseling. Larry is a credentialed treatment provider for the State of Missouri and certified in Biblical counseling through IABC. He knows, as John Calvin has stated, “The heart is an idol factory” and works tirelessly to convict his counselee’s and bring them to a saving knowledge of Christ, from which comes repentance.

STEPHEN GANSCHOW

BIBLICAL COUNSELOR, BA BIBLICAL COUNSELING, ACBC, IABC CERTIFIED COUNSELOR

Stephen Ganschow has always had the gift of helping and ministering to others but has taken a long road to refine these gifts and put them to their best use in Biblical counseling. This long road was the process God used to refine him, chipping away at his pride, and giving him a genuine sensitivity for hurting people. Stephen attended several collegiate programs, from Moody, Trinity, and finally Liberty – earning a BA in Biblical Counseling and a Masters in Theology. These degrees have granted him access to a variety of careers and experiences ranging from the mental health system, to City Union Mission, as well as in the justice system as a probation officer, and administrator a substance abuse program. He is currently the Care Pastor at Christ Community Church.

With additional certifications from such places as the ACBC and IABC, Stephen is uniquely equipped both intellectually and spiritually to see the roots of an issue. This innate understanding of the human mind led him to his counseling style, utilizing the axiom, “statements harden the heart, but questions prick the conscience.” Stephen has an essential role with RGCC as a long-distance counselor, utilizing Skype and FaceTime. He is a teacher / instructor in both the in-person and online training programs, and acts as a church-consultant for struggling churches or those that are interested in starting a counseling ministry of their own.

SUZANNE HOLLAND

BA PSYCHOLOGY, BA COMMUNICATION, IABC & ACBC CERTIFIED BIBLICAL COUNSELOR.

Suzanne Holland is a follower of Jesus Christ, wife to John and mom to two grown sons, Tyler and Jason. She was educated in the world of secular Psychology, earning Bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Communication Studies. Before meeting Christ, she was convinced that talk therapy, venting, and medications were the answers to the problems of life. But the Lord changed her mind when He changed her heart, and she rejected these things in favor of the power of the Holy Spirit. God showed her the truth of “Heart Change for Life Change” even as he gave her a new heart. She knew there had to be something better than the world’s model, and she found it in Biblical Counseling. Suzanne originally began working on her Biblical Counseling Certification in 2007, and completed all of her training and testing. Through this process, she experienced true heart change herself, and developed a great desire to share it with others. In 2012, the Lord brought her to RGCC to complete her training. Suzanne is now certified by the IABC and is in the supervisory phase of her certification with the ACBC. She is very excited to help other women apply the truth of God’s Word to their lives. Suzanne blogs at Near to the Healer http://neartothehealer.blogspot.com/

BILL SCHLACKS

MA PSYCHOLOGY, IABC CERTIFIED BIBLICAL COUNSELOR, ADJUNCT PROFESSOR- CALVARY BIBLE COLLEGE

Bill is a Chicago native that has lived throughout America with stops in Colorado, Hawaii, and California thanks to his time in the Air Force. A mentor in his life inspired Bill to study psychology during his time in undergraduate training. The degree attracted Bill because it appeared to be a profession that gave hope and answers to hurting people. Bill furthered his studies to include a Masters in psychology. Bill has worked in the mental healthcare field for over 25 years. It started in a clinical setting where he provided assessments, administered intakes, and counseled outpatient groups. Bill found in these sessions people with, “[a] profound sadness, looking for answers, and with unmet desires to free them[selves] from bondage.” Bill grew frustrated in his position working daily with adults and school aged children who often were looking for the “quick fix” that psychology could offer through medications, and diagnosis. Often, he saw people that were not willing to make life altering changes or be held accountable for their sin. He took an opportunity to transition into Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), a burgeoning field at the time. Bill consulted with 35 different companies, many of them on the Fortune 500, as they navigated employee conflict, wellness, and mental health. He found that companies could often enforce discipline and expectations in ways that family and individual counselees could not. Throughout these career paths, God was working in Bill’s life to equip him for the role he fulfills today. When he found himself living in Florida in 2008 during the economic downturn, it was time to reflect on his calling. Working to solve conflicts on a people to people level left Bill unsatisfied; he had a greater calling to share the gospel and counsel people not just to get along with one another, but to bring people to better develop the most important relationship in their lives: their relationship with their Father in heaven. Bill’s journey to Kansas City and to Reigning Grace Counseling Center was a lifetime in the making, but he is confident that it is the place God has called him to be. “Counseling is two things,” he explains, “grace and truth.” Reigning Grace Counseling Center is a place where Bill can share the truth of the gospel—something so
