Public Apology to Dr. Welch

As Executive Director of ACBC, I want to extend a public apology to Dr. Ed Welch for an editorial mistake made by us in the Journal of Biblical Soul Care (JBSC) regarding a response provided by him.

Ed wrote to the JBSC editorial team and me to offer a personal response (not intended for publication) of Dr. Francine Tan’s critique of his initial JBSC article [1]. I requested permission to publish this response in order to encourage academic dialogue. Ultimately, Ed graciously agreed to write a revised version of the response for publication. However, due to an honest miscommunication made by our team, we mistakenly published the initial personal response rather than the revised version. We have now corrected this error and this change is reflected in the JBSC issue [2] in question.

I want to ensure both Ed and our readers that it was never our intention to publish Ed’s personal response and we are committed to improving our internal communication in the future so as to avoid such a mistake.

Ed, I want to personally and publicly thank you for writing a response. I ask that you, and our readers, would extend forgiveness and understanding to our team for this honest mistake. Our desire is to continue publishing a resource that would seek to promote dialogue within the biblical counseling movement and we deeply appreciate your participation.

T. Dale Johnson Jr., Ph.D.
