Annual Conference 2018 Highlight | Day 2

Annual Conference

Session 2 | Child and Family Abuse

Greg Gifford

Shame is a gift from God that is intended to lead you to repentance. Shame about abuse belongs to the abuser, not the abused.

When there is a case of abuse and you are in a place where you cannot report it, or you know nothing will be done about it even if you report it, what you know about God will mean everything.

Session 3 | A Testimony of Abuse

Pam Gannon

I minister comfort by asking them to be reconciled to God.

Just as God can grow a pure white daisy from the charred remains, so can he grow a soul from the charred remains of abuse.

Session 4 | Domestic Abuse

Chris Moles

We will oppose oppression and we will value women.

Practical advice: prioritize safety, listen compassionately, avoid quick fixes, increase your understanding, provide for immediate needs.

Leadership Transition

Today, Dr. Dale Johnson officially became the Executive Director of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. During our Membership Meeting, Dr. Heath Lambert formally stepped down as Executive Director and recognized Dr. Johnson as his immediate and welcome replacement. We are excited to continue to grow as an organization under Dale’s wisdom and leadership.

If you would like to learn more about Dr. Johnson, you can visit our webpage here to read comments from our board members and to listen to a series of podcasts of Dr. Lambert interviewing Dr. Johnson to help our listeners get to know Dale better.

I thank the good Lord for this conference. My eyes have been opened to a whole new way of seeing abuse. I wish I had the exposure when I was going through my own battle of abuse. This kind of counseling can and should lead people too a whole new way of seeing and living life after trauma in ones life.
